Citadel
fort in the town of Victoria on the island of Gozo. It has been in the city since the Bronze Age, and its uses changed with the passage of ages. In the Roman era, it was an acropolis, and in the Middle Ages it turned into a shelter to house the city's residents. The ruler of Malta renovated the fort in the years between 1599 and 1622, and it still maintains its shape from that period. The fort's yards include churches and historic buildings. This fort was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998.
