Coimbra Old Cathedral
The finest example of Romanesque architecture in Portugal is the Old Coimbra Cathedral, dating from the beginning of the 12th century. It was built as an expression of the new nation's victory over the Moors at the Battle of Ourique. Unlike many of Portugal's grand early buildings, much of its Romanesque design remains. The original is as is, although the cathedral is furnished with many later decorations.
