Gonda Island, also known as Ali Bey Island, had a large Greek population when it became the official residence of the Greek Orthodox Archbishop in 1922. It is considered the largest of the Ayvalık Islands between Greece and Turkey, and is famous for its beautiful stone houses with colorful shutters and major landmarks such as Taxiarchis Church and trees Olives, small fishermen's boats that ply the sea, and winding cobblestone streets make it a place worth exploring.
