Doi Din Dang Pottery is located in the mountainous region of northern Thailand and has many buildings that appear to be Japanese-looking. Its name means “mud red hill” in the Thai language. It began working about 25 years ago when Thai artist Somluk Pantiboon returned to Chiang Rai was trained by a 13th generation Japanese potter. Today, this world-renowned ceramist leads the studio in traditional and contemporary stoneware, mugs, teapots, vases and original art pieces; All are handcrafted or cast on wheels and subsequently fired at high temperatures using natural materials.
