El Ghriba Synagogue

The synagogue "al-Ghariba" is an ancient synagogue, and accounts say that it was built on the place of residence of "al-Ghariba", a Jewish worshiper who settled on the island of Djerba at the site of the synagogue. The synagogue contains the oldest copies of the Torah from the Old Testament, and annual celebrations are held in it by the Jewish community in Tunisia and from around the world, as huge numbers of visitors and "pilgrims" come to visit the place and pray, especially on Jewish holidays.
