Located on the border between the cantons of Bern and Valais, the Finsterahorn is the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest peak in Switzerland. The Finsterahorn is the ninth highest mountain and the third most prominent peak in the Alps. In 2001 the mountain range and its surrounding glaciers were designated as part of the Jungfrau Aletsch World Heritage Site.
