Forte Altavilla

One of the fortifications dating back to the nineteenth century, it was built immediately after the unification of Italy to repel land attacks on the city, and the castle was an important point of contact between northern and southern Italy. The fort is surrounded by a large moat, equipped with three defensive areas. In the eighties of the twentieth century, the castle was disarmed and turned into a public park for the city. As the castle is located within a picturesque natural area that has been planted with a group of plants, trees and colorful flowers. It also hosts many national events, concerts and various festivals.
