The famous Carthaginian leader Hannibal was buried in the Gebze region of Kocaeli, and in 1934 Ataturk ordered the construction of a memorial mausoleum for him in the same place, and the order was implemented by the Ministry of Culture in 1981, and the mausoleum consists of an inscription of Hannibal's face engraved on a stone block weighing 24 tons It is located in the middle of the field, surrounded by a circle of cypress trees. Inscriptions have also been written on it that include the biography of the famous leader in Turkish, English, French, German and Italian.
