The Monastery of San Miguel Alto was built on the Olive Tower, which was the highest point in the Ziri wall that protected the Muslim population from Christian incursions. It was 2300 meters long, with 25 distributed towers and 6 large gates. After the Moors left the Kingdom of Granada, these walls lost their functions. Defensive, and in 1671 the tower was demolished and the monastery dedicated to San Miguel was built there, as it was believed that if a monastery was built there, the continuous floods would stop.
