High Castle of Fussen
High Castle of Fussen
High above Füssen, this picturesque castle was once the summer residence of the princely bishops of Augsburg. It is one of the most important buildings of the late German Gothic style. It began to be built illegally in the year 1291 by the secular Bavarian lord Ludwig der String, and in the fourteenth century the German bishops recovered the building and made it an ecclesiastical building, but in the fifteenth century it fell into the hands of the Kingdom of Bavaria, which removed all religious monuments from it. Today, the building is used as a tax office and museum.
