Ichkeul National Park

Lake Ichkel is the last large freshwater lake in a chain that previously stretched along North Africa, and is an indispensable stopover for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds in winter. It has been declared a protected national park in northern Tunisia, as it contains important natural habitats for more than 200 animal species and 500 plant species, and the very unique location of the lake made it a distinctive environmental phenomenon, as the area of the lake represents the confluence of six major valleys in the region, which causes a high percentage of fresh water in the lake in the winter, while in the summer the water level decreases The Six Valleys give way to enter the waters of the Mediterranean, thus increasing the salinity of the water, heralding a new stage for wild and animal life on its banks.
