Okuz Mehmet Pasha built the Kaleici Mosque in the seventeenth century, in 1618, when he was governor of the Ottoman province of Aydın, as part of a construction project that included building a traditional bath and city walls. Today, the Kaleici Mosque is one of the most famous mosques in Kusadasi, the largest, and the oldest as well. This mosque is distinguished by its distinctive and beautiful building, which shows the splendor of Ottoman architecture, and its large area, as it accommodates 550 worshipers.
