The Manila American Cemetery covers an area of 152 acres, and contains the largest number of graves of American soldiers killed during World War II, with a total of 17,206 graves; The tombstones are arranged in 11 plots, forming a generally circular pattern, and are set among a variety of tropical trees and shrubs. In the middle of this cemetery is a white stone church decorated with sculpture and mosaics that narrate the achievements of the American armed forces in the Pacific, China, India and Burma.
