Mater Ecclesiæ Monastery
The Abbey of the Mother Church is located within the grounds of Vatican City. The monastery is named after a Catholic Mary and is located on Vatican Hill within the gardens. This monastery was built between 1992 and 1994 on the site of what was once an administrative building for the Vatican Police. It was founded by John Paul II with the aim of establishing a religious order of nuns within Vatican City, so that they could pray for the Pope and the Church.
