The Hungarian Geological Institute, the oldest still functioning scientific research institute in Hungary, was founded in 1869. Its founding charter was signed by Emperor Francis Joseph II by carrying out its tasks funded by the state budget. The Hungarian Geological Institute provides geological advice Impartial and faithful to legislation, state administration and municipal authorities, its main tasks are to draw geological maps of the country with the provision of basic data for practical research, planning, decision-making and implementation of hydrogeological, environmental geological and agricultural geological research, in addition to many other miscellaneous tasks.
