Mount Meron
Jabal Al-Jarmaq is the highest mountain in the country and is located in the northwest of Galilee, with a height of 1208 meters. The mountain’s Arabic name “Al-Jarmaq” goes back to the Jaramaqah, an Arab tribe that left their homes in Yemen and settled in northern historical Palestine and southern Lebanon. As for the Hebrew name Har Meron, which means Mount Meron, it is believed that it was taken from the name of the ancient Canaanite city Merom or Meroma, the site where Joshua defeated the Canaanite kings. The mountain extends over an area of 28,000 acres covered with green spaces and many rare tree species.
