Founded in 1912, the African Museum of Namur is a surprisingly rich cultural institution run by a non-profit organization that aims to give value to the links forged between Belgium and Africa. The museum is located in the former Leopold Barracks Guard House, and is the only museum of its kind in the city of Namur. It displays documents and memorabilia related to the Belgian presence in Central Africa, especially in the Congo. The library of 20,000 books covers the history, geography, zoology, geology, ethnography and economics of the African people.
