The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts was the first museum in Turkey that combines works of Turkish and Islamic art, and it was established in 1914 as a museum for Islamic institutions in the emirate building in the Sulaymaniyah complex, which was built by the great Turkish architect Sinan in the sixteenth century, then the name of the museum was changed to the Museum of Arts Turkish and Islamic after the proclamation of the Republic and moved to its current location in the Ibrahim Pasha Palace, which dates back to the sixteenth century, in 1983, and the core collection of the museum includes Islamic artworks that were collected from all over the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the twentieth century, and these works include carpets, manuscripts and metalwork glassware, ceramics, wood and ethnographic materials, the collection represents a broad period ranging from the advent of Islam to the twentieth century and the vast geographical area ruled by the Ottoman Empire.
