The Nassau Public Library is the oldest and largest library in the Bahamas, established in 1837 to spread knowledge and a culture of reading among the local population. The library is located inside a colonial building that was built in 1797. The library building contains small prison cells that once housed resistant prisoners. The library also contains old colonial documents, newspapers, books, plans, historical prints and much more.
