In 1778, the Batavia Society of Arts and Sciences established what is known these days as the world-famous National Museum of Indonesia, which is the best of its kind in Indonesia and a must-visit. It is an archaeological, historical, ethnic and geographical museum located in Jalan Merdeka Barat Square in downtown Jakarta, Specifically, on the western side of Merdeka Square. The museum's huge collection in the open courtyard begins with a wonderful ancient statue dating back thousands of years, and the wonderful section of theology includes puppets, wooden statues, and paintings, as well as some wonderful tapestries.
