Description of the place
war memorial consisting of a tower and an observation deck, it was built in 1936 near the city of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein. Consisting of a 72-metre-high tower, the monument was built initially to honor seafarers who were victims of World War I, then in 1954 it was re-dedicated as a memorial to seafarers of all nationalities lost at sea, and at the same time a memorial to peaceful sailing on the open seas.
