Northern Gate
The first thing you see when you enter the old city of Kotor is the northern gate, which is distinguished by its wonderful design that has survived from the Middle Ages. You can see the moat filled with water, and walk on the bridge that brings you to the city. It is definitely a place worth visiting. The North Gate or River Gate was built in Renaissance style to preserve the memory of Kotor's victory over the famous Turkish admiral Hajrudin Barbarosa in 1539. There is an inscription above it, saying that Barbarossa besieged the city with 2,000 ships and 30,000 soldiers, but still no succeed in overcoming it.
