Old Coventry Cathedral
Old Coventry Cathedral
Built in 1373 and originally one of the largest parish churches in England, this cathedral was only elevated to cathedral status in 1918. After the Blitz in 1940, only a few parts of the outer walls remained. At the eastern end of the old cathedral, there is the famous crucifix of charred rubble salvaged from the ruins, a poignant symbol and reminder of the destruction. (Interesting fact: the Chamber of Sacraments was rebuilt after the war with the help of young German volunteers).
