Parliament Buildings
Covering an area of 45,000 square metres, Parliament House is the home of the New Zealand Parliament. The Parliament Buildings include: Parliament House, Executive Wing, Parliamentary Library and Bowen House. A former wooden parliament building was destroyed by war fire in 1907 along with all other parliament buildings except the library. In February 1911, Prime Minister Joseph Ward announced a competition to find an alternative design, and 33 designs were entered, to be selected for this unique and distinctive design.
