The Pawaiak Prison Museum was inaugurated on November 28, 1965 as a branch of the Museum of the History of the Polish Revolutionary Movement. The opening was attended by the Polish Marshal Marian Spichalski, as many former prisoners and their families arrived at the opening and many residents of Warsaw. Besides the opening of the museum, the first permanent exhibition was shown inside it until 1991. In addition to the reconstructed interiors, much of the building was taken into account keeping documents, drawings, and accounts of former prisoners.
