Murat Topani Street is a famous cobblestone pedestrian street in downtown Tirana, located between the Parliament building and the National Art Gallery. Its name comes from the Toptani family that controlled Ottoman Albania from the 18th century until World War II. The avenue is particularly attractive in the summer when it offers double rows of plane trees on either side. Along the way, you can admire some of the city's ancient fortifications, dating back to when the Topani family vied with other powerful local families for control of Tirana.
