Ruins of Roman-era Necropolis
The ruins of the Roman tombs were found during the excavation of the foundations of the Avala Hotel between 1936 and 1938, where many tombs dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman eras were discovered, along with many precious pieces, such as gold, silver, jewelry, ceramic dishes, glassware, ceramics and weapons. Consisting of two parts, the largest part belongs to the Hellenistic period between the fourth and first centuries BC, and the newer part belongs to the Roman period from the first and second centuries AD. A total of 450 tombs were discovered, and it is believed that these tombs have been used for more than a thousand years.
