The Catacombs of San Gennaro are considered one of the oldest and holiest shrines in the city. It is a Christian cemetery located under the grounds of the city of Naples and has origins dating back more than 1000 years. A visit to it is considered a journey to discover the close bond of faith between the city and its patron, San Gennaro. It includes 3 types of tombs arranged according to social class, wall paintings from the second century AD, mosaic work from the fifth century, and an ancient image of a saint from the second half of the fifth century.
