Santa Luzia Sanctuary
Construction work on the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, began in 1904 and continued until 1959. It was the work of the architect Miguel Ventura Terra. It is distinguished by its Byzantine-Romanesque-inspired building and its majestic rose windows, which are the largest of their kind in the city. The Iberian Peninsula and one of the largest in Europe, National Geographic magazine ranked this temple as the third most beautiful building in the world.
