Sao Tiago Church

Documents indicate that the Church of São Tiago was founded in 1206, but there is a tradition that places its foundation in the time of Fernando I; The King of León, who built it upon the recovery of Coimbra from the Moors in 1064, makes its stately and powerful appearance a fine example of the Romanesque style of the time. The interior of the church was redesigned in the 16th century, when an imposing Gothic chapel was built on the left side.
