The Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in classical style during the 19th century by the Ryazanovs - a wealthy dynasty and Old Believer family, and was completed in 1854. The church was closed in 1930 when the bell tower and domes were destroyed. During the war, and during the Soviet years, the church was used as a cinema and a textile factory. The building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1996. Today, the Holy Trinity Cathedral is Yekaterinburg's main place of worship. The interiors include a magnificent religious fresco known as the Iconostasis.
