The Herb Jarrett and Old Operating Theater Museum is located in the upper floor of the early 18th century chapel at the old St Thomas' Hospital in London and provides a unique insight into the history of medicine and surgery in the UK The original Herb Jarrett's timber framed room was used Previously for drying and storing herbs for patients' medicines, and in 1822 an operating theater was included in this room, the oldest surviving surgical theater in Europe due to the presence of anesthetics and antiseptics. It is worth noting that this attic is accessed through a narrow spiral staircase with 52 steps.
