Uluwatu Temple
Perched on the cliffs above one of Bali's best surfing spots, Uluwatu Temple is one of the island's most popular temples thanks to its fantastic location. Archaeological findings here indicate that the temple is of megalithic origin, dating back to around the 10th century. The temple is believed to protect Bali from evil sea spirits, and the monkeys that live in the forest near its entrance are believed to protect the temple from bad influences. The temple has a scenic walkway, and although only Hindu devotees are allowed inside the temple, the atmosphere is lovely, and the daily sunset dance performances are well worth a visit.
