Description of the place
Established by Paul VI in 1973, the Vatican Historical Museum, housed in a large room under the Square Garden, preserves the saddles, carriages, cars and sedan chairs used by many popes, as well as nineteenth-century carriages and the first model of the Vatican City locomotive (1929). Of particular note is the "Gran Gala Sedan" designed for Pope Leo XII and used until Pius XI.
