Vatican Necropolis

The Vatican Cemetery is located under Vatican City, 5 to 12 meters below St. Peter's Basilica. Major archaeological excavations and excavations took place between 1940 and 1949 under the auspices of the Vatican and at the request of then Pope Pius XI who wanted him to be buried near Peter. Millions of people from all over the world visit the Vatican every year, and a large percentage of these people visit this cemetery, as it is the place where Peter the Apostle and other popes are believed to have been buried, so this site is one of the holiest places in the Vatican.
