It was initially built in the eleventh century by the inhabitants of Parga in order to protect their city from pirates and Turks, but it was partially destroyed due to invasions of this kind. , and in the thirteenth century, the Venetians rebuilt the castle to fortify the region, and in 1452, the Turks occupied Barga and destroyed part of the castle, then in the sixteenth century, it was rebuilt for the fourth time by the Venetians who made it a strong fortress, and they built eight towers outside the castle and cisterns To supply the castle with water in times of war, and today, Barga Castle is one of the most prominent examples of Venetian architecture, as it contains some interesting details such as the Lion of Venice at the entrance, Ali Pasha's emblems, double-headed eagles, some inscriptions, and the secret path to the sea.
