The Museum of the Aegean Sea is located in a building of traditional Cycladic architecture from the 19th century, which has been in operation since 1985. The building belonged to Nikolaos Sourmelis, the legendary captain of the shipping navy "Enosis" Which played a decisive role in Crete's fight against the Turks. You'll see replicas of pre-Minoan ships, important naval documents, historical maps, equipment, documents, and rare coins. The most striking exhibit is located in the elegant garden at the back of the museum. In the park, you'll also have the chance to see marble replicas of gravestone tombstones from Delos and Mykonos and see wrecks of ships lost at sea.
