Name of the place
Alacati Pazaryeri Camii
Alacati Pazaryeri Camii
This mosque was built in 1874 as a Greek Orthodox church for the Greek city of Alazata originally, but after the population exchange in 1923, the name of the city was changed to Alacati, and the church was turned into a mosque. This building functions as a mosque and a church at the same time in the present day, as this mosque and church in Izmir is one of the rare examples of tolerance between religions. When you enter this building in the center of Alacati, you will see that some of the interior areas are separated by a curtain, and behind the curtain there is a church that tourists can also visit.
