Ankara Houses
Ankara Houses
These are the houses seen in the old settlement areas of the city, especially in the Kaleici district. Ankara houses, a few examples of which date back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, are mostly two-storey buildings made of wood and brick. In the lower courtyard of these houses are the servants' rooms and on the first floor there are rooms for the owner of the house. Overall, the outside of the house includes an open staircase leading to an open colonnaded porch. The geometric, Roman, and Ottoman motifs appear on the ceilings of the houses, on the cores of the roofs, and on the doors.
