Trajan's Arch or as it is called the "Roman Triumphal Arch" in Ancona is the Roman Triumphal Arch that was erected by the Senate and the people of Rome during the reign of Emperor Trajan in honor of him after he expanded the city's port and improved the sidewalks and fortifications in the city at his personal expense. The arch was the work of the Greek-Syrian architect Apollodorus of Damascus, and it is an arch made of Turkish marble that was specially brought from the quarries of Marmara Island, and is 18.5 meters high. It is surrounded by a group of Corinthian columns on ornate pedestals.
