Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary was built in Lourdes on the banks of the Gave de Baux between 1883 and 1889 to replace an earlier church dedicated to Our Lady. Designed in a Romanesque style influenced by Byzantine architecture in the shape of a Greek cross, it features two unique oval access ramps that embrace a square of approx. 80,000 people, and its main doors bear two circular mosaic panels depicting Pope Leo XIII and Schoepfer of Tarbes and Lourdes.
