Basins of Aghlabides
Constructed during the ninth century by the Aghlabid dynasty to provide sufficient drinking water for the inhabitants of the arid city of Kairouan, the Aghlabid ponds are a hydraulic ensemble consisting of a pond and two fortified water tanks fed by a 36-mile-long canal. The pond filters the water where sediment collects before being transported. Water to the larger basin, today it has been converted into a park with facilities for visitors.
