Borgund Stave Church is a unique example of fine medieval architecture and is a landmark on the tourist route to Lärdal. Built in 1180, the church has been exceptionally preserved and is one of the most outstanding parish churches in Norway; Some of its best features are the lavishly carved portals and ceiling carvings of dragon heads. Stave churches are Norway's most important contribution to world architecture and the oldest preserved wooden buildings in Norway.
