Cathedral of St. Nicholas (Stolnica Sv. Nikolaja)
The city's main church is the largest cathedral in Slovenia, located in the historic Old Town. Today's cathedral dates back to an 18th-century design, and is an elegant Baroque building, with twin towers and an enormous central dome. The lavish interiors that attract the most attention are a space of pink marble and white and gold stucco, lavishly decorated by many of the city's most prominent artists. Among the highlights are the Baroque frescoes, and a pair of bronze walls erected in honor of the late Pope John Paul II.
