Chalet Countess Edla is located in the famous Pena Park and was built by King Ferdinand II and his second wife, Elise Hensler; Countess of Edla, between 1864 and 1869, in keeping with the model of the Alpine chalets that were in vogue in Europe at the time, and recently reopened to the public after a long process of renovation and restoration after its building was destroyed by fire in 1999.
