interlaken monastery and castle
This building was initially called the Augustineian Monastery, since it was founded in the twelfth century. When you visit the place, you will be able to see the bell tower, which dates back to the fourteenth century, in addition to a Gothic monastery and the remains of a church dating back to 1452 AD. You will especially notice the variety of window designs in the castle chapel. Before the abbey was handed over to the state in the 16th century during the Protestant Reformation, the abbey was a hostel for pilgrims heading to the former hermitage of St. Beatus, believed to be in the caves above Lake Thun.
