Built in the 18th century during the reign of King John V, the stunning Juanín Library, designated a Portuguese National Monument and containing an indispensable part of the University of Coimbra Public Library, is one of the highlights of Coimbra and attracts many Tourists wanting to learn about its interesting history. The beautiful and noble interior design of this stately library reflects the generous spirit of its founding patron. Visitors are greeted by the king's coat of arms over the large portico at the entrance. Students and researchers can consult more than 300,000 volumes dating from the sixteenth century to the late nineteenth century. XVIII and preserved in the archives covering three floors of the building.
