Most people have probably never visited a leprosy museum before. A very old hospital dating back to the 15th century, making it one of the oldest in Scandinavia and one of the best in Europe. The current buildings date back to the 18th century, but the last two patients died there in 1946. Significant contributions have been made by Norwegian scientists to the study of leprosy, including Gerhard Armauer Hansen who discovered the leprosy bacteria in 1873.
