Millennium Monument
The Millennium Monument is dedicated to the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of the people and national independence. In front of the monument is a large stone sarcophagus surrounded by a decorative iron chain. While some books refer to it as a tomb, it is not a burial place. Immediately behind the sarcophagus there is a column surmounted by a statue of the Archangel Gabriel, as the angel holds in his right hand the holy crown of St. Stephen, the first king of Hungary, and in his left hand is an apostolic cross with two bars, a symbol granted by the Pope to St. Stephen in appreciation of his efforts to transform Hungary into Christianity. In Hungarian it is referred to as the double cross or the double apostolic cross. At the base of the column there is a group of seven stirrup figures representing the Hungarian leaders who led the Hungarian people to the Carpathian basin. ) and Töhötöm.
