The National Archaeological Museum is the largest museum in Greece and one of the most important in the world, housed in a neoclassical building built at the end of the 19th century. Its rich collections - which include more than 11,000 objects - introduce the visitor to ancient Greek culture from the beginning of prehistory to late antiquity. The museum also houses a rich photographic archive and library containing many rare publications, which are constantly enriched to meet the needs of the scientific staff. It also has modern metallurgical, ceramic and stone maintenance workshops, casting workshops, organic materials, photographic workshop and chemical laboratory. There are also halls for rotating exhibitions, a theater for lectures, as well as one of the largest collections of archaeological resource funds.
